ORLANDO, Fla.—The University of Hawai'i cheer team traveled to Orlando, Fla. to compete at the Universal Cheerleaders Association's Collegiate National Championships, Jan. 12-14 at the ESPN Wide World of Sports complex in the Adventhealth Arena.
Always known nationally for their creativity and innovation, the UH cheer squad has placed in the Top 10 in 17 appearances covering a 25-year span.
This year's team is a cohesive unit that is young with a few experienced members. The cheerleaders ramped up their practice in between working all the arena sports and football. Right after Christmas the team began really focusing on their routine for the National stage.
Teams will be judged on crowd interaction and skills—including partner stunts, pyramids, basket tosses, tumbling and overall impression.
