HONOLULU — The University of Hawai'i women's soccer team kicks off the 2023-24 athletics calendar by taking on Houston Christian in an exhibition game on Sunday at Waipi'o Peninsula Soccer Stadium.
The Rainbow Wahine face the Huskies of the Southland Conference in their lone exhibition prior to the season-opening Outrigger Soccer Kickoff set for Aug. 17 and 20 at WPSS.

ON THE PITCH
• Rainbow Wahine returnees accounted for 14 of the team's 15 goals last season, led by forwards
Krista Peterson (five goals, four assists),
Amber Gilbert (four goals, two assists) and
Kelci Sumida (two goals, four assists). Sumida and midfielder
Eliza Ammendolia (two goals, one assist) elected to return for their fifth years in the program.
• Ammendolia was a first-team All-Big West selection last season, defender
Jacey Jicha made the second team and Peterson was an honorable mention pick. Gilbert earned a spot on the All-Freshman team.
• Goalkeeper
Sophie Augustin made 22 saves in four games and earned a Big West Defensive Player of the Week award before suffering a season-ending injury.
• Houston Christian went 7-10-3 in 2022 and ended its season with a loss to top-seeded Lamar in the semifinals of the Southland Conference tournament.
• The Rainbow Wahine open the regular season against Utah Valley on Aug. 17 at WPSS and face Gonzaga on Aug. 20. Houston Christian will stay for the tournament and will also face Gonzaga and Utah Valley.
