SACRAMENTO, Calif.— For the first time in her career, sophomore
Lilian Turban has advanced to the NCAA Championship Finals after placing at No. 3 in the high jump Saturday afternoon in the NCAA Championship First Round at Hornet Stadium.
Turban jumped 1.85m (6' 0.75"), tying her with the top four student-athletes, all securing spots to advance. The mark also tied her career-high, a feat she accomplished two weeks ago in the Big West Championships.
Turban became the first Rainbow Wahine to make the championship round since 2018, when Lily Lowe was an honorable mention All-American, placing 18
th in the high jump event in Eugene, Oregon. The last time UH had an NCAA Champion and an All-American came in the high jump in 2010, when Amber Kaufman left her mark on the program.
Joining Turban on the day was junior thrower
Hallee Mohr, who made her second consecutive appearance in the NCAA Championship First Round with Turban, finishing at No. 27 in the discus throw. Last year Mohr placed at No. 32 overall with a distance of 161'4". In 2023, she improved not only in her final position but also in her distance at 167'3".
The season will advance to the second week of June when Turban will head to Austin, Texas, for the championship round to compete against the best of the best in the collegiate standings. The event is set to begin on June 6
th and continue till June 10
th.
