Three Earn CSC Academic All-District Honors

GREENWOOD, Ind.—Three University of Hawai'i softball players earned College Sports Communicators Academic All-District honors for their efforts in the classroom and on the field. Mya'Liah Bethea, Maya Nakamura, and Rachel "Bueller" Sabourin all earned the prestigious award for the first time in their careers.
 
Bethea, a utility player from Las Vegas, Nev., started all 53 games. She started the season in leftfield but finished started 46 games at first base. The junior who is majoring in business administration and entrepreneurship recorded career highs across the board posting 34 hits, seven doubles, 25 RBI with a .234 batting average and .531 slugging percentage. Bethea led the Big West with 12 home runs—which was more than three opposing conference teams had combined.
 
Nakamura started 50 game at second base. She earned her Bachelor's degree in elementary and special education this past Saturday. The Honolulu-product out of Roosevelt High School excelled on the field, leading UH for the second-straight season finishing with a .390 batting average. She also had team-highs of 35 runs, 29 walks, and a .531 on-base percentage.
 
Sabourin, a native of Centennial, Colo., appeared in 39 games with 27 starts primarily at third base. The kinesiology and rehabilitation sciences major also received her bachelor's degree recently. This season, Sabourin notched new career highs with 16 hits, four doubles, six home runs, 18 RBI and 15 runs to close out her senior season.
 
The 2023 Academic All-District® Softball Team, selected by College Sports Communicators, recognize the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances on the field and in the classroom. Student-Athlets must carry at least a 3.50 cumulative GPA while playing in at least 50% of their team's games.
 
Academic All-District® honorees advance to the CSC Academic All-America® ballot. First-, second and third-team Academic All-America® honorees will be announced June 6.
