CORVALLIS, ORE.— The University of Hawai'i track and field team capped off the 2023 regular season schedule with the second and final day of the OSU Performance meet at the Whyte Track and Field Center.
The day began with the Rainbow Wahine scorching the competition in the 4x100 relay, clocking in at 46.25, nearly two seconds better than the second-place College of Idaho. The foursome of senior
Amy Warrington, juniors
Alyssa Mae Antolin and
Chadelle Gregory, and sophomore
Caitlin Simmons now rank at No. 3 in the UH record book, outdoing their previous time from earlier in the season of 46.51. The 'Bows' time is currently ranked No. 5 in the Big West.
The day's success continued for Antolin and Warrington in both the 100m and 400m sprints. Antolin was the only runner to finish under 12 seconds at 11.73 to win the event. Warrington followed up with a sixth-place finish, clocking in at 12.33 for the second-fastest time of her career. Gregory kept up a steady pace of improvement with a time of 12.38 for ninth place. Gregory started the season in the 100m dash at 12.80 and has gradually worked her way to her new mark with improvements from every meet, working her way into qualifying for the Big West championships.
An hour before the 100, Warrington took first place in the 400m, crossing the line at 56.93, securing her a qualifying time for the conference championships. Freshman
Izzy Peterson paced right behind her for a second-place finish at 57.50.
Sophomore
Carlin McFadden recorded a breakthrough time in the 800m with a time of 2:12.78, qualifying for the championships. Freshmen
Keilah Wilkes and
Ania Magdesian each added solid times in their first collegiate season.
In the field events, senior
Lilian Turban notched her fifth victory in as many chances this season. Turban cleared the bar at 1.84m (6'0.5) for both a personal record and a facility record. She also ranks second in the UH record book.
Tara Wylie won the triple jump with a distance of 12.33m (40'5.5). She also had a personal record in the 100 hurdles at 14.31, placing second, putting her in the top 10 of the Big West rankings. Simmons placed second in the triple jump at 12.32m (40'5) for a new personal record.
Freshman
Rose Forshaw celebrated her birthday by finishing fifth in the shot put, recording a distance of 13.88m (45'6).
In all, Hawai'i tallied seven victories over the two-day event and will now prepare for the Big West heptathlon on May 5th and 6th, followed by the championships on May 12th and 13th.
