HONOLULU- The No. 5 University of Hawai'i women's water polo team will play its final regular season match against No. 12 UC Davis at 6:00 PM this Saturday, April 22 at the Duke Kahanamoku Aquatic Complex. The match will be the last home appearance for Rainbow Wahine
Libby Gault,
Olivia Kistler and
Emma van Rossum who will be honored following the match as part of Senior Night.
All three seniors have been a part of multiple Big West champion and NCAA Tournament squads and have played in every regular season match this season. Gault (14 goals, five assists) and Kistler (12 goals, seven assists) have each contributed 19 points a piece for the Rainbow Wahine. Meanwhile, van Rossum has continued to spearhead the Rainbow Wahine defensive effort. She was recently named to the watch list for the Cutino Award, given to the nation's top player. For her achievements in the pool, the classroom and in the community, she is also the 2023 recipient of the Jack Bonham Award, the highest individual honor bestowed by the UH Athletics Department.
The Rainbow Wahine (18-5, 5-1 BWC) are coming off a tough 11-10 loss to UC Irvine (16-6, 6-0) last Saturday in a key matchup for the league crown. The latest CWPA national poll had UH dropping a spot to No. 5 with UC Irvine leapfrogging into the No. 4 spot. Despite that loss, UH can still claim a share of the regular-season title with a win over UC Davis, coupled with a UC Irvine loss to Long Beach State. The 'Bows have won at least a share of the Big West title in each of the last four seasons.
UH takes on UC Davis (15-12, 3-3 BWC) for the first time since last season's 13-5 win in California which was the largest margin of victory over the Aggies in 33 all-time meetings. Hawai'i has won 20 straight in the series, including all nine Big West regular-season meetings.
Following Saturday's regular-season finale, the 'Bows will head to Santa Barbara, Calif., to compete in the Big West Tournament, April 28-30. The eight-team bracket is set to be released after this weekend's final set of conference matches.
