LAS VEGAS, Nev. – University of Hawai'i sophomore
Mayumi Umezu carded a 1-over 73 and is tied for fifth place after the first round of the Big West Women's Golf Championship Sunday at the Spanish Trail Country Club.
The Waimea, Hawai'i native posted two birdies and three bogeys on her round which was UH's best of the day. As a team, the Rainbow Wahine are in eighth place with a 311 total.
Cal Poly, who were co-champions of this event last year, holds the first round lead at 292 followed by UC Riverside (295), Cal State Fullerton (297) and Long Beach State (297). LBS's Jasmine Leovao has the clubhouse lead at 6-under 66. UCR's Tiffany Le is four strokes back. The two were the only golfers to shoot under par.
Hyeonji Kang shot 75 and is tied for 14

The tournament continues on Monday with Round 2. UH is paired with UC Irvine and CSUN with tee times beginning at 9:00 a.m. PT
