IRVINE, Calif.—University of Hawai'i softball catcher
Izabella Martinez earned her first career Big West Field Player of the Week Award after leading Hawai'i with a .700 batting average at Cal Poly.
Martinez, a native of Garden Grove, Calif., went 7-for-10 at the plate to help the Rainbow Wahine win two of three in San Luis Obispo last week. Twice, she recorded a career-high three hits in the first and third games. Two of her seven hits went for extra bases with a double and a solo home run. On defense, the catcher also threw out two Mustang runners trying to steal second in the series.
Martinez leads UH overall with a .373 batting average. She has a team-best 38 hits, seven doubles and is second on the team with 27 RBI. In conference play, she is tops on the team with a lofty .444 batting average. Martinez also leads the Big West and is ranked No. 5 in the NCAA as the "toughest to strikeout" with just three strikeouts in 102 at-bats.

Mya'Liah Bethea (Feb. 20). Overall, UH has had six players earn BW weekly honors, Key-Annah Campbell-Pua has been named Pitcher of the Week (2/20) plus two Freshman of the Week awards (2/20, 3/13) while fellow rookie pitcher Millie Fidge also earned BW Freshman of the Week honors (2/27).
