Hawai‘i Concludes the Mike Fanelli Classic and the Stanford Invitational

San Francisco, Calif. & Palo Alto, Calif.- The University of Hawai'i track and field team picked up a handful of victories on Saturday after going with a split squad with separate meets in California, including the Mike Fanelli Classic and the Stanford Invitational.

The Rainbow Wahine will be back in California in two weeks as they're scheduled to compete in the Bryan Clay Invitational from April 12th to the 15th in Los Angeles, California.

The Mike Fanelli Classic- Coming off her Big West qualifying time two days ago in the 3000m steeplechase, senior Sophia Morgan rewrote the history book as she now sits atop the rankings in the two-mile run. Morgan clocked in at 10:58.61 to take first place in the event by more than seven seconds.

On top of Morgan's essential performance, two other distance runners made a difference as freshman Keilah Wilkes and sophomore Carlin McFadden improved their times in the 800m. McFadden finished at 2:16.36, placing her at No. 6 in section one, while Wilkes placed at No. 8 in Section 4, with a time of 2:18.41.

Sophomore Helen Hoadley captured first place in the pole vault, clearing the bar at 3.92m (12' 10.25) ranking her at No.4 all-time at UH, and sophomore Ashley Babkirk made her debut, finishing at No. 4 with a height of 3.50 (11' 05.75).

Joining Hoadley atop the podium was another sophomore in Danielle Bauman. The Schenkon, Switzerald native jumped a distance of 5.33m (17' 6) in her second attempt to win the crown as teammate junior Chadelle Gregory came in at third place with mark of 5.14m (16' 10.50).  Gregory showcased her skills by recording personal records in two events. The first came in the triple jump with a distance of 11.12, finishing at No. 6 in Flight 2. The other came in 100m as she went from 12.81 down to 12.58 to place at No. 4 in Section 4.

The Stanford Invitational- Hallee Mohr had a flair for the dramatics as she captured the discus invite title on her final throw of the day. Mohr hurled the discus 50.49m (165'7), narrowly escaping Amanda Spear from conference rival UC Santa Barbara who finished second overall. In the collegiate portion of the discus throw, freshman Rose Forshaw and graduate Victoria Solheim finished at No. 5 and No. 6, with Forshaw finishing with a mark of 42.66m (139'11) and Solheim at 42.41 (139'1).

After winning the collegiate shot put the day before, Rose Forshaw also placed at No. 10 in the javelin throw at 39.58m (129'10), an improvement of over three meters from her previous season's best.

Freshman Tara Wyllie continues to improve rapidly since joining the program in January, finishing second in the collegiate triple jump.  Wylie concluded the day at 12.31m (40' 4 ¾), our performing several other athletes from the Big West.

Amy Warrington ran the best time of her career in the 200m, crossing the finish line at 25.05. She also teamed up with fellow juniors Alyssa Mae Antolin, Tierra Sydnor, and sophomore Sammie Gordon in the 1600 relay. The foursome clocked in at 3:48.07, cutting out a second from their last meet two weeks ago to place at No. 8 in the event.
