NEWS & NOTES

  • The Rainbow Wahine escaped Cal State Fullerton's upset bid with an 82-75 win in double overtime in the quarterfinals Wednesday evening as sophomore guard Lily Wahinekapu scored a team-high 20 points.
  • In four tries this season, UH is 1-3 in overtime situations, 0-1 versus non-conference foes, and 1-2 against Big West teams.
  • Friday will mark the eighth scheduled appearance in the Big West tournament semifinals since rejoining the conference in 2012-2013. The 'Bows are a 4-2, with the only exception coming in 2020 when they were set to take on UC Santa Barbra, but it was canceled due to the COVID-19 outbreak.
  • Long Beach holds the record of 25-21 against UH, including two wins this season. The Beach came away with a 62-48 win on Jan. 14 at Long Beach, followed by a narrow 48-47 victory in Honolulu on Feb. 18. UH held the Beach to 32% shooting in the game at home while Wahinekapu tallied a season-high 21 points.
  • UH is 2-0 against the Beach in the Big West tournament since 2012-2013, the latest victory coming in the 2015-16 conference semifinals. The win propelled UH into the championship game, to eventually win the tournament snapping 20 years of not making the NCAA Championship tournament, and the first under head coach Laura Beeman.
  • During the 2022-23 season, the 'Bows are 11-4 when they outrebounded their opponents; two of those four losses came against the Beach. In the same breath, the 'Bows are 5-10 when they have more turnovers than their opponents. In the two games against LBSU, they turned the ball over 20 plus times, and on average, UH turned the ball over 11 more times than LBSU in their two games.

SPREAD THE ALOHA
Assists have been an important element of success this season for the 'Bows. No player averages more than four dimes this year; as a team, they average 11 a game. The threshold is 15 assist mark as UH is 6-3. The deciding factor in those two of those three losses was turnovers, as UH committed 17 against UC Irvine (Feb. 25) and 15 against UC Santa Barbara (Jan. 26).
