HONOLULU—The University of Hawai'i track and field team, returns to action this week as the team will split between two meets. A portion of the team will travel to San Francisco, California, for the Mike Fanelli Classic. In contrast, the other portion will head to Palo Alto, California, to compete in the Stanford Invitational.
The Mike Fanelli Classic hosted by San Francisco State will have all distance competitors on Thursday and Friday. In comparison, Stanford University will host the Stanford Invitational, with the throwers representing the green and white. Pole Vaulters and sprinters will be split up between the two events.
The Rainbow Wahine are coming off an impressive performance in back-to-back weeks, including the Ben Brown Invitational and Cardinal Classic hosted by Stanford two weeks ago. Following the 'Bows performance at the Classic, they swept the weekly Big West awards as junior
Alyssa Mae Antolin was named the track athlete of the week, and Montserrat Montanes I Arbo received her first career field athlete of the week honor.
Events will begin on Thursday in the Mike Fanelli Classic as senior
Sophia Morgan will compete in the 3000m steeplechase. On Friday, UH will form a team of freshmen
Halle Hamilton and
Kristin Cook and juniors
Summer Steinsrud and
Anna Marx for the 4 x 400 relay.
Three 'Bows will compete in both meets as seniors Kū'ulei Moku and
Rachel Payan bounce from one to the other with sophomore
Helen Hoadley. Standout junior
Sammie Gordon, sophomore
Caitlin Simmons, and freshman Tara Wylie will all stay in Palo Alto to build on their early season success.
