IRVINE, Calif. – University of Hawai'i opposite
Dimitrios Mouchlias was picked as the Big West's Player of the Week after leading the Rainbow Warriors to a 2-1 record at the OUTRIGGER Invitational last week.
The Soufli, Greece native earned his second Big West weekly award this season and fourth of his career. He is also earned UH's fifth offensive Player of the Week award this season along with three by
Spyros Chakas.
The AVCA National Player of the Week award is released on Tuesdays.
The junior was named the tournament's Most Outstanding Player of the Outrigger Invitational after averaging 4.73 kills per set, hitting .392 in three matches against Purdue Fort Wayne, Penn State and UCLA. He led the team in kills in each match, including a season-high 22 (.390) against then-No. 2 UCLA while also tallying 14 kills (.462) in a win over PFWU and 16 kills (.333) in a loss to then-No. 3 Penn State. Mouchlias averaged 1.45 digs and 0.73 blocks per set with three aces in the tournament.
For the year, he ranks No. 10 nationally in kills per set (3.94) and No. 13 in hitting percentage (.396).
Mouchlias and the Rainbow Warriors open Big West play with a two-match series against rival Long Beach State, Friday, March 17 and Saturday, March 18.
