HONOLULU--The University of Hawai'i softball team (9-6, 0-0 BW) continues their month-long homestan hosting the Hawai'i Spring Fling Tournament. The four-day tourney runs from Thursday, March 2 - Monday, March 6, 2023 at the Rainbow Wahine Softball Stadium. Competing in the six-team tournament are Niagara, Pacific, St. Bonaventure, Santa Clara, Utah and Hawai'i.

Streak: In the 2014 Spring Fling Tourney in Honoluu, UH and Pacific split their two games against each other. UH first held off the former Big West rival, 8-7 on 3/6/14, but Pacific avenged their loss to defeat UH, 4-2 on 3/8/14.

NEWS & NOTES•Hawai'i went 2-2 in last week's Bank of Hawaii Invitational. The 'Bows dropped the first two games, but then bounced back to win their last two with wins over Marist and St. Bonaventure. In the tourney finale, In the bottom of the sixth and the score knotted at 0-0,
Haley Johnson launched a two-run bomb for what proved to be the winning runs, while
Brianna Lopez had her best outing of the season, firing a complete game, two-hit shutout over the Bonnies. She struck out a season-high nine batters while facing just 23 batters.
•FIDGE EARNS UH'S SECOND-STRAIGHT BIG WEST FRESHMAN OF THE WEEK AWARDS - Rookie pitcher Millie Fidge fired a complete, 7.0 game win—her longest outing of the season—to earn her first collegiate win. She evened her record at 1-1, allowing two runs on six hits with three walks and a career-high seven strikeouts in Hawai'i's win over Marist on Saturday on the second day of the Bank of Hawaii Invitational.
Fidge is the most recent pitcher to come through head coach
Bob Coolen's Australian pitcher pipeline—which includes All-Americans Brooke Wilkins, Kelly Gentle, Kaia Parnaby and more. Overall, she is the 13th Aussie to don the Green and White.
Overall, Fidge has a 3.50 ERA in six appearances and 20.0 innings pitched. She has struck out 20 batters while walking just eight.
Fidge is the second-straight Rainbow Wahine to be named Big West Freshman of the Week. Last week Key-Annah Campbell-Pua was tabbed both BW Pitcher and Freshman of the Week.
•JOHNSON COMING THROUGH IN THE CLUTCH- Sophomore
Haley Johnson hit a team-best .385 with a team-highs of five hits, five RBI (tied with
Izabella Martinez) and a home run. Currently, she is on an eight-game hitting streak and has reached base safely in 11 consecutive games. She accounted for five of the teams 12 runs last week. Overall, the designated player/catcher leads UH with a .370 batting average with a team-high 17 hits and 18 RBI. Johnson also leads UH with seven multiple-RBI games.
•NCAA/BIG WEST RANKINGS - After leading the nation in double plays last season, UH continues to be one of the nation's best in turning two. Currently, the 'Bows are ranked at No. 7 in the NCAA and leads the Big West with 0.67 DP's/game. Hawai'i is also in the NCAA Top 20 drawing 63 walks. UH leads the Big West in home runs per game, double plays per game and total walks.

•Maya Nakamura's .574 on-base percentage leads the BW and is No. 35 in the NCAA

• LOPEZ FIRING AWAY - Sophomore pitcher
Brianna Lopez continues to anchor the UH pitching rotation. She leads UH with a 1.54 ERA and a 5-2 record with five complete games. On Sunday, she had her best outing of the season, earned her first complete-game shutout of the season with a two-hitter against St. Bonaventure. She fanned a season-high nine strikeouts with no walks. Overall, she has recorded 28 strikeouts to 16 walks in 41.0 innings pitched.
•MARTINEZ CONTINUES HOT HITTING - Sophomore catcher
Izabella Martinez continued her hot hitting and is second ont he team with a .368 average. Her four doubles ar e a team-high and her 14 RBI is tied for second. In UH's win over Marist, she drove in four runs to tie her career high.
•GIN LEADING SETTING THE TABLE - Junior shortstop Xiao Gin leas UH with 14 runs scored and is ranked No. 1 in the BW averaging 1.00 walks per game. Overall she is hitting .357 (15-for-42)with a double and a triple. Gin leads UH with five multiple-hit games and with 15 walks to just one strikeout.
