Hogland Honored As Big West’s Top Weekly Defensive Player

IRVINE, Calif. – University of Hawai'i middle blocker Cole Hogland earned his first Big West Defensive Player of the Week award following the team's series sweep of Long Island.
 
The Waimānalo, O'ahu native became the fifth Rainbow Warrior to earn a conference weekly award and third to be named defensive player of the week following Brett Sheward (Jan. 16) and Guilherme Voss (Feb. 13).
 
Hogland led the team with 13 total blocks in the two-match series, averaging 2.17 blocks per set. He had eight in UH's straight set win in the series opener and followed it with five in the rematch. The junior also hit .667 with nine kills in 12 attempts and also had a team-leading three aces in the series.
 
Hogland currently leads the team with a 1.07 blocks per set average which ranks No. 10 nationally and No. 4 in the Big West.
 
CSUN's Jano Tello was named Player of the Week while UC San Diego's Josh Schellinger earned Freshman of the Week honors.
 
UH continues its five-week homestand by hosting a pair of matches against former conference rival Pepperdine, Wednesday, March 1 and Friday, March 3 at SimpliFi Arena at Stan Sheriff Center.
