Chakas Earns Second Big West Player of the Week Award

IRVINE, Calif. – For the second time this season, University of Hawai'i outside hitter Spyros Chakas received Big West Player of the Week honors following his performance in the team's two-match sweep of Concordia.
 
The Nea Smyrni, Greece native averaged 4.29 kills per set, hitting .441 in the series. The junior also averaged 1.86 digs and 0.86 blocks per set and tallied three aces. He had 16 kills, hitting .424 with two aces, six digs, and three blocks in the series opener and followed with a team-high 14 kills, hitting .462 with one ace, seven digs, and three blocks in the rematch.
 
Chakas leads the team with a 4.29 kills per set average which ranks No. 5 nationally. The Greek, who has reached double figures in kills in seven of nine matches this season, also earned player of the week honors after UH's season-opening series sweep of Ball State.
 
Chakas and the Rainbow Warriors continue their five-week homestand with a pair of matches against Long Island, Wednesday, Feb. 22 and Friday, Feb. 24.
