HONOLULU—The University of Hawai'i softball team bounced back on Friday to post a pair of victories on Day 2 of the Fall Preseason Classic. Hawai'i pulled away to avenge its loss to Chaminade, 7-3, then defeated Fullerton College on a walk-off 2-RBI double by
Maycen Gibbs to finish off the Hornets in six innings, 8-0 on Friday afternoon at the Rainbow Wahine Softball Stadium.

Hawai'i starter Addison Kostrenchich earned the complete game win. She allowed three runs in the first, then settled down to blank the Silverswords for the final six innings and faced just 27 batters for the game.
Chaminade's Baile Benson took the loss. She allowed four runs on 10 hits with a strikeout. Vanessa Pena tossed the final two innings, allowing three runs on five hits.
The Silversword jumped out to a quick 3-0 lead in the first on three hits and an error.
Hawai'i tried to respond in the next half inning picking up three singles with one out. But the rally was thwarted by a double play turned on a fly out to center then doubling off the runner at third to end the inning.
UH got one run on the scoreboard in the second. With one out, Xiao Gin and
Dallas Millwood hit back-to-back singles.
Maycen Gibbs then drilled an RBI single to right to score pinch runner Keely Kai from second. The Silverswords then turned a 6-4-3 double play to escape any more damage.
The 'Bows knotted the score at 3-3 on a two-run bomb hit to center by
Haley Johnson that drove in
Chloe Borges who had reached earlier on a fielder's choice. Hawai'I then scored the go-ahead run in the bottom of the fourth on an RBI-single by
Ka'ena Keliinoi which drove in Gin from third to take a 4-3 lead.
The 'Bows extended their lead to 7-3 in the sixth when Keliinoi ripped a triple to left to score both
Maya Nakamura and Gibbs. Keliinoi then crossed the plate on a wild pitch for UH's final run.
UH's Keliinoi and
Izabella Martinez both led the 'Bows going 3-for-4 at the plate. Keliinoi also had a triple and three RBI.
Haley Johnson went 2-for-3 with a home run.

Chloe Borges fired a complete game shutout over Fullerton College in her first start of the Fall. She spaced six hits with two walks and four strikeouts.
After three scoreless innings, UH got on the scoreboard in the fourth on a sacrifice fly to center hit by Nakamura that scored pinch runner
Larissa Goshi.
In the fifth, the Rainbow Wahine extended its lead to 3-0. Gibbs drilled a doubled down the leftfield line that scored both Goshi and Keely Kai.
Hawai'i then rolled in the sixth, erupting for five runs to end the mercy rule game. Madixx Muramoto blasted a solo home run to center to lead off the inning. Back-to-back singles by Nakamura and Keliinoi and a walk to Martinez loaded the bases for Borges, who laced a double to the left-center gap to plate pinch runners
Alyssa Nakagawa and Nevaeh Telles. Later with one out, Gibbs struck again with her second 2-run double of the game. Her shot down the third baseline drove in both pinch runners
Cierra Yamamoto and Kai to end the game at 8-0 by the mercy rule.
The Hornets used three pitchers in the game. Starter Macy Bandl took the loss. She gave up one run on five hits with two walks and six strikeouts. Reliever Ally Fuentes gave u sseven runs on five hits with three walks and a strikeout in an inning of work. Izzy Ortega was only able to get one out in the final inning of play.
The Fall Preseason Classic concludes on Sunday, Nov. 12. Hawai'i will play the final two games of three on Sunday. UH will face Fullerton at 2:30 followed by the tourney finale vs. Chaminade.
