Hawai‘i Prepared for UC Riverside Invitational

HONOLULU– The University of Hawai'i cross country team is back in action this Saturday with the squad's first road trip of the season to Riverside, California, for the UC Riverside Invitational.

"This will be a good early season test for the Bows and an opportunity to preview the Big West Championships course," said head coach Tim Boyce. "We're training well, and this trip continues that process of preparing for late October and November."

The Rainbow Wahine are off to a strong start following a one-two-three finish in the Big Wave Invitational on Sept. 4, resulting in a first-place finish for the team. Senior Caelan Miller set the pace in the 5k race with a mark of 19:00.3 for her first career first-place finish. Senior Sophia Morgan and freshman Keilah Wilkes followed suit with their second and third-place finishes.

UH competed in the same event a year ago, on Sept. 18, 2021, and placed 15th out of 22 teams in the 6k. Morgan led the 'Bows with a time of 21:44.2, finishing at 45th overall with 173 participants. Morgan's run last season also placed her at eighth overall in the cross country record book for the 6k, but she out-did her time a few weeks later with a time of 21:43.5 in the Santa Clara Bronco Invitational on Oct. 16, 2021.

Saturday's meet will provide a catalyst to where the 'Bows stack up against Big West competition. Traditionally the UC Riverside Invitational hosts between five to eight conference teams. The women's 6k is set to begin at 7:15 a.m. PT.
