ON THE PITCH
  • Head coach Michele Nagamine enters her 12th season at the helm of the Rainbow Wahine program, accumulating a record of 63-83-18. A year ago, the 'Bows went 2-9-3 after having the entire 2020 campaign canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
  • Associate head coach Marc Fournier is joining Nagamine for his 12th season with the program. The tandem has coached together since 2009, spending two seasons together at Hawai'i Pacific.
  • The 'Bows return 16 players from the 2021 roster, including seven starters—six players left from last year's roster, with four graduating.
  • The 2022 squad is senior-heavy as eight 'Bows are eligible to receive a degree at the end of the year.
  • A combined 10 newcomers will join the roster in 2022, including six true freshmen. Four transfers fill the other spots. Three of the four transfers have multiple years of eligibility, while Bailey Faulkner, a midfielder from Loyola-Chicago, is a graduate transfer.
  • Two more notable returners offensively are seniors Kelci Sumida and Eliza Ammendolia. Sumida, an attack forward from Honolulu, O'ahu, tallied five of the team's 14 goals a year ago. Ammendolia, a rangy midfielder from New South Wales, Australia, added three goals and was tied with the team lead in assists with two.
  • Defensively is where UH will come into the season with the most depth. Anchored by graduate Lauren Marquez at goalkeeper, seven additional players saw time on the back line in 2021. Sophomores Carley Park and Jacey Jicha were the mainstays as they both played over 800 minutes as freshmen defenders.
  • UH and NAU have played each other three other times, and all three matchups occurred during regular season play. The last matchup came in 2013 in Flagstaff, Ariz. with UH coming away with a 1-0 overtime victory.
  • The Lumberjacks played one other exhibition this preseason as they fell to Arizona on Aug. 7, 1-0.
