DAVIS, Calif. – The University of Hawai'i track and field team finished day one of the Big West Championships at UC Davis.
Hawai'i posted multiple podium finishes and qualified various athletes for finals in their events.
Freshman
Lilian Turban kickstarted the day's events as she finished third in the shot put with 43' 8 3/4" and earned the squad six points.
Sophomore
Montserrat Montanes i Arbo took home fifth in the hammer throw marking 178'10" and garnered another four points.
In the long jump, it was sophomore
Tierra Sydnor leaping 18' 10 1/2" to snag third place and another six points for the team.
The final points scored on the day came from freshman
Helen Hoadley in the pole vault, who cleared 12' 3 1/4" for seventh place and two points.
Sophomore
Alyssa Mae Antolin finished first in her qualifying races for the 100m and 200m dash. Her 11.68 and 23.81 were personal bests and set her up for tomorrow's big finals day.
Also qualifying for the 200m finals was sophomore
Amy Warrington who snagged the last spot with a 25.01.
UH also had two athletes, senior
Kristen LaCosse and sophomore
Sammie Gordon, qualify for the 400m hurdles taking the third and fifth best times.
After seven of the 21 scored events have finished, Hawai'i mustered up 24 total points and holds in seventh place, heading into the final day of the championships.
Finals day action begins tomorrow at 8:00 a.m. HT with the javelin throw.
