HONOLULU – The University of Hawai'i track and field team sets its sights on the second weekend of competition for the Big West Championships in Davis, Calif.
"We're looking forward to this final test during our finals week at UH," said head coach
Tim Boyce. "The team, coaches, and staff have worked hard and prepared well for this championship meet and can't wait to see everyone compete."
The Rainbow Wahine enters the weekend with six championship points accumulated from last week's multi-event event.
With lots of opportunities to score more points this weekend, many UH athletes sit among the best marks in the conference.
Sophomore
Hallee Layman boasts the top discus throw in the Big West at 169'6" and looks to capture first this weekend.
Sophomore
Alyssa Mae Antolin holds the number two spot in both the 100m and 200m dash with 11.82 and 24.03.
The 4x100 team and 4x400 team showed out earlier in the season, posting times not seen in decades, and both rank third in the Big West rankings.
Montserrat Montanes i Arbo is also sitting third in her respective event, where she posted a 188'10" in the hammer throw.
In her senior campaign,
Kristen LaCosse comes into the championships with the fourth-best time in the 400m, sitting at 1:01.00.
Sophomore
Tierra Sydnor hit the 19'0" mark in the long jump earlier in the year at Stanford, the fourth-best coming into championship weekend.
Rounding out the top marks of the conference for the 'Bows, freshman
Kiyah Bast and her javelin toss of 143'1" puts her in the top five.
The Rainbow Wahine's first opportunity to gain points will start at 6:00 am HT with the hammer throw.
