HONOLULU – The University of Hawai'i women's outdoor track and field team commences their 2022 season in Long Beach, Calif., running from Friday, Mar. 4 to Saturday, Mar. 5. The Rainbow Wahine returns to the Beach Invitational for the first time since 2019.
"Everyone is looking forward to opening the outdoor season and building on the momentum the MPSF Indoor Championship provided," head coach
Tim Boyce said. "We are excited to see our Wahine returners and newcomers compete ths weekend."
UH will take a group of 22 student-athletes to compete at Long Beach with
Kristen LaCosse,
Alyssa Mae Antolin, and
Tierra Sydnor headlining the bunch. Of the 22-athlete travel team, four will be making their debuts, including freshman thrower
Kiyah Bast, freshman multi-event
Lilian Turban, freshman multi-event Jessica MacKenzie and freshman distance runner
Sam North.
Sophomore sprinter
Alyssa Mae Antolin is coming off a record-breaking indoor season, where she broke the school indoor record in the 200-meter dash twice. In her previous outdoor season at the Big West Championships, she finished with a bronze medal in the 200-meter dash.
Sophomore thrower
Hallee Layman returns for her second outdoor season, where she last took home a silver medal in the discus event in the 2021 Big West Championships.
Sophomore jumper
Tierra Sydnor looks to continue her momentum from her indoor season, where she placed third in the high jump and second place in the long jump at the MPSF conference championships.
Junior distance runner
Sophia Morgan joined the top-10 all-time list in the 3000-meter steeplechase in the 2021 season and returns for another chance at climbing the record book performances chart.
Senior sprinter
Kristen LaCosse continues her senior campaign into the outdoor season, wherein the prior outdoor season accumulated seven top-3 placements out of eight finals competed in.
The Javelin and Hammer throw are the only contested events on Friday beginning at 7:30 am HT. All other events are scheduled to being at 8:00 am HT on Saturday.
