HONOLULU – Six Hawai'i women's soccer players received academic all-district recognition from the College Sports Communicators on Tuesday for their accomplishments in the classroom and on the field.
Taylor Caporus,
Maya Gonzalez,
Lauren Marquez,
Kylie McNamara,
Krista Peterson and
Kelci Sumida each earned a spot on the all-district team after playing key roles for the Rainbow Wahine on the field this year while holding a cumulative grade point average of at least 3.50.
This year marks the first time that all student-athletes meeting the requirements were named to all-district teams, running the total number of recognitions by Hawai'i players to 14 all-time. All six Rainbow Wahine will now be eligible to receive Academic All-America honors later in the fall.
Taylor Caporus, Senior
- Majoring in kinesiology.
- Appeared in 13 of the 15 matches off the bench on the front line as a senior.
- Recorded first career point and assist in a win over UC Riverside on Oct. 20.
Maya Gonzalez, Junior
- Majoring in kinesiology.
- Appeared in 14 of the 15 matches with six starts on the back line.
- A starter in all four of the Rainbow Wahine's shutouts this year.
- Played in nine of the 10 matches during conference play.
Lauren Marquez, Senior
- A graduate student who already earned her degree in kinesiology.
- Four shutouts this year are tied for the seventh-most in single-season program history
- Goals against average of 1.21 is the 10th best in a season in school history.
- Named Big West Defensive Player of the Week after a shutout win over UC Davis on Sept. 15.
- Finished career ninth in UH history with 97 saves.
Kylie McNamara, Senior
- Majoring in elementary education.
- Played in all 15 matches and made her first 11 career starts this year.
- Started the final five matches of the year and seven of the last eight.
- Appeared in 35 career matches while totaling 1,251 minutes.
Krista Peterson, Sophomore
- Majoring in business with a focus in entrepreneurship.
- Led the team and finished tied for sixth in the conference in both goals (5) and points (14).
- A Big West honorable mention selection.
- Registered a point in eight of her 14 matches played.
Kelci Sumida, Senior
- Majoring in kinesiology.
- Finished tied for sixth in The Big West with four assists.
- Led the team in minutes played (1,228), shots (36) and shots on goal (21).
- Finished UH career with 12 goals, six assists and 30 points while starting 44 of 45 matches played.
- Started 30 consecutive matches to end her career.
