SUNNYVALE, Calif.—Against some stellar competition, the University of Hawai'i cross country team showcased their continued growth during the 2022 campaign with the Bronco Invitational Saturday morning.
"Really solid day, most with a 6k personal best, and a big breakthrough day for
Sam North," said head coach
Tim Boyce. "We need to be more confident at the start, and we'll accomplish even better things ahead."
For the first time this season, senior
Sophia Morgan led the Rainbow Wahine with a time of 21:18.0, while North crossed the line at the exact moment for the same time, placing Morgan at 52nd and North at 53rd overall. Senior
Caelan Miller added to the strong performance, finishing at 21:22.9 for the 63rd position. As a result, the trio rewrote the UH record book in the 6k, putting their times at fourth, fifth, and sixth all-time. Of the 'Bows top 10 ten times in 6k events, five of the 10 have been recorded at the Bronco Invitational, all occurring during the Boyce era.
As a team, UH came in at 14th overall with 416 points and a total time of 1:48:53.30. Improving on the squad's previous 6k mark of 1:51:19 as a team from the UC Riverside Invitational on September 17th.
UH will set its sights on The Big West Championships in two weeks at UC Riverside.
