LOS ANGELES – The Hawai'i swimming and diving programs kicked off their season Friday with the swimmers in action at the USC Invitational while the divers competed at Pepperdine.
A pair of Rainbow Wahine swimmers turned in program top 10 times to highlight the opening session of competition at USC. Fifth-year transfer
Laticia Transom recorded the seventh-fastest time in UH history in the 50 Free, finishing fifth with a time of 22.65 in her first swim as a Rainbow Wahine.
Dorottya Dobos improved upon her No. 10 overall time in program history the 100 Back with a personal best of 54.98 to finish seventh overall.
In the women's 200 IM,
Mandolin Nguyen clocked a time of 2:04.61 in her UH debut to put her just outside the UH top 10, while
Anna Friedrich turned in a personal best time of 2:05.41.
On the men's side, thee 400 Medley Relay team of
Sean Hogan,
Justin Lisoway,
Milan Bukovics and
Mario Surkovic kicked off the day's action with a time of 3:18.95 to finish in fifth. Bukovics also competed in the 200 IM, stopping the clock in 1:50.85 to finish just a second off his personal best.
In the diving competition at Pepperdine, the UH diving squad earned four NCAA Zone E qualifying marks.
Elma Lund reached the zone standard in 1-Meter diving with a mark of 290.60, while on the men's side
Mackaby Pennington also made the Zone E cut in the event with a score of 305.35.
Juan Gonzalez earned qualifying marks in both 1-Meter and 3-Meter diving, posting a score of 332.30 in the 1-Meter event and 343.20 in 3-Meter.
The UH swimming teams are back in action with day two of the USC Invitational with two sessions. The first session begins at 6 a.m. HT while the final session will get going at 9:30 a.m. HT.
