Softball Unveils 2022 Schedule

HONOLULU—University of Hawai'i softball's 2022 schedule was unveiled on Monday. This year's slate features 42 total games plus an exhibition doubleheader. UH will battle 19 different teams representing seven different conferences from across the nation. Hawai'i will play 22 home games—including two non-conference tournaments and four Big West Conference series—at the Rainbow Wahine Softball Stadium.

Hawai'i's schedule is highlighted by games against four teams that advanced to the 2021 NCAA tournament, headlined by the defending national champions—Oklahoma. The other three teams that saw NCAA postseason action were Baylor, BYU and Long Beach State.

The Rainbow Wahine will open the season on the road for just the second time in the last 20 years. Hawai'i makes its return to play on the ninth Island (Las Vegas) to compete in UNLV's Boyd Gaming Rebel Classic from Feb. 11-13 at Eller Media Stadium. The Rainbow Wahine will face BYU, UNLV, and CSU Bakersfield (in a non-conference match-up).

Hawai'i then returns to Hawai'i to begin a 12-game homestand, starting with a doubleheader exhibition against British Columbia on Feb. 18. The 'Bows will then host back-to-back tournaments—the Hawai'i Invitational (Feb. 24-26) with Abilene Christian, Montana and North Dakota, followed by the high-powered Rainbow Wahine Classic (March 9-12) featuring Baylor, California and the reigning national champs, Oklahoma.

Hawai'i will then begin Big West Conference play. This year, UH will host four home conference series—CSUN (March 25-26); Cal Poly (Apr. 8-9); Cal State Bakersfield (April 22-23) and Cal State Fullerton (May 6-7).  UH will play five series on the road, opening the conference season at UC Santa Barbara (Mar. 19-20); at UC San Diego (Apr. 1-2); at UC Riverside (Apr. 15-16); at Long Beach State (Apr. 29-30); and closing the season at UC Davis (May 13-14).

The Rainbow Wahine are led by 16 returnees--including six starters and two pitchers from last year's squad which recorded a 12-19 overall record and an 11-13 conference mark. The 2022 Rainbow Wahine are led by all-Big West players—senior shortstop Nawai Kaupe, junior first baseman Dallas Millwood, sophomore utility player Maya Nakamura, and senior centerfielder Brittnee Rossi.
