HONOLULU - The University of Hawai'i women's indoor track and field season gets underway at the Air Force Invitational, Jan. 20-22 in Colorado Springs, Colo. This is the first competition for the Rainbow Wahine in two years after the previous season was canceled due to the pandemic.
Â
Head coach
Tim Boyce returns for his fifth year at the helm of the track and field program.
Â
"We are eager for the opportunity," Boyce said. "Most of our student-athletes have not competed, so we are excited to get this season going."
Â
The Rainbow Wahine returns 2020 NCAA Preliminary qualifier and school-record holder senior sprinter
Kristen LaCosse. Thrower
Kate Borsz and pole vaulter
Audrey Stalcup joins LaCosse for their senior campaigns.
Â
LaCosse, an Indiana native, posted two individual school records and ran a leg of the 1,600-meter relay school record team. She tied the long jump school record at the Ed Jacoby invite that had stood alone since 2005.
Â
Stalcup, a California native, set a season-best pole vault at the Ben Brown Invitational (3.51m) and picked up a pair of 11th place finishes in the previous year's outdoor season.
Â
Borsz, a Nevada native, rounds out the senior class and looks to improve upon her 30th-place finish at the 2020 MPSF Championships. Borsz set a personal record in the hammer throw (43.29m) at the Ben Brown Invitational in the prior outdoor season.
Â
The 'Bows welcome 10 newcomers, including eight freshmen. The two transfers include distance runners
Becca Bodine and
Ellis Collins.
Â
Competition for the Air Force Invitational begins Thursday, Jan. 20, at 10:15 a.m. HT with the pentathlon 60-meter hurdles.
