Correa Named Director of Player Development

University of Hawai'i baseball head coach Rich Hill announced the hiring of Dallas Correa as Director of Player Development on Tuesday. Correa joins the Rainbow Warrior staff after three seasons as head coach at Hawai'i Pacific.

"We are so fortunate to have such a great person and great baseball mind joining our Rainbow Warrior family," Rainbow Warriors head coach Rich Hill said. "Dallas is an absolute rising star in this profession and our organization is blessed to have him join us. Let's go 'Bows!"

As the skipper at Hawai'i Pacific, Correa led the Sharks to a 40-52 record over three seasons and had HPU operating on all cylinders on defense in 2021, turning the most double plays per game in the PacWest Conference (0.73), which ranked 40th in the D-II ranks and had the Sharks swiping bases at a high clip with the second-most stolen bags per game (1.58) in the conference and 60th in the country.

Before his time as the head coach at HPU, Correa served as the assistant coach and recruiting coordinator in 2018 and was a graduate assistant for the 2016-17 seasons.

While at Hawai'i Pacific, Correa had the privilege of coaching three HPU players that were drafted in the MLB First Year Player Draft: Rico Garcia (30th Round, Rockies), Brandon Bonilla (13th Round, Orioles), and Matthew Gunter (33rd Round, Blue Jays). Correa has also overseen multiple All-PacWest and All-West region Academic honors and has been instrumental in creating the Sharks Baseball Corporate sponsorship program, Sharks Prospect/Youth Camps and Showcases, and First Pitch Dinner raising over $100,000 in his first two years at the helm.

Correa is no stranger to the Big West Conference as the former catcher played his freshman season at the University of the Pacific (2012-15) during the Tigers' final season in the Big West before playing three seasons in the West Coast Conference, the conference Coach Hill coached in while at San Diego.

The Hanapape, Kauai native had his best season as a Tiger in 2015 when Correa hit .256 in 30 games with four doubles and 11 RBI.

Correa attended Saint Louis School in Honolulu where he was a two-time All-ILH catcher and two-time ILH Champion at St. Louis High School in Honolulu, where he also was named an Under Armour Pre-Season All-American before graduating in 2011.
