HONOLULU—The National Fastpitch Coaches Association announced its all-region teams on Thursday, and junior shortstop Nawai Kaupe of the University of Hawai'i softball team was selected to the West All-Region Third Team.
 
Kaupe joins 380 student-athletes from 154 Division I programs to be named to 10 different regional squads. Joining Kaupe were 10 other student-athletes from Big West Conference programs, including Cal State Fullerton, Long Beach State, and Cal Poly.
 
In 2021 Kaupe led UH in home runs (6), runs batted in (22), total bases (52), and slugging percentage (.591). On the defensive side, she accumulated a .950 fielding percentage and was tied for the lead in the Big West Conference for assists with 88 while playing 20 fewer games.
 
On Wednesday, five Rainbow Wahine were honored by the conference with yearly awards, including Kaupe being named to the Second Team.
