Fogel, Igawa Homer in Finale Loss

NORTHRIDGE, Calif. – Back-to-back home runs from center fielder Adam Fogel and left fielder Jacob Igawa were not enough in the University of Hawai'i baseball team's 6-4 loss on Sunday at CSUN. The back-to-back homers marked the first time the Rainbow Warriors had gone back-to-back since Fogel and Ethan Lopez did so at Fresno State in 2018.

Hawai'i (23-19, 15-17 Big West) was down 4-0 in the sixth inning when Fogel hit a three-run home run on the first pitch of his at bat, igniting the Rainbow Warrior dugout which didn't die off as Igawa deposited his third home run of the season to left field to tie the game.

That was all of the offense for the Bows even though catcher Tyler Murray, shortstop Kole Kaler and right fielder Scotty Scott all had two hits.

Igawa led the game with three hits and Fogel extended his hitting streak to 12 games, the longest of the season (Tyler Best had a 13 game hitting streak that reached into 2020 season).

Senior Logan Pouelsen who took the loss, went 6.1 innings into the game, before giving way to redshirt freshman Tyler Dyball. Pouelsen struck out five and walked a pair while giving up seven hits which led to five runs, four of which were earned.

CSUN (20-16, 20-16 Big West) took the lead in the third inning with one run on a couple wild pitches before taking its 4-0 lead that Hawai'i eliminated on the two home runs.

Hawai'i returns home to face UC San Diego May 21-23 and will honor seven graduates during the Sunday game.

The seven graduates Hawai'i will honor are Matt Campos, Alex Baeza, Fogel, Dustin Demeter, Pouelsen and Calvin Turchin.
