IRVINE, Calif. – The University of Hawai'i track and field team had their best collective performance at the Big West Championships since 2016 by scoring 51 points with three medalists Thursday through Saturday on the campus of UC Irvine.
 
"It was a great meet for the Bows," Wahine head coach Tim Boyce said. "I am super proud of everyone and grateful to all of those who enabled this season to happen. This was the best team finish in years with a very young team."
 
Ignited on Thursday by bronze medalist Kathryn Philpott in the javelin, the Rainbow Wahine scored in 12 of the meet's 21 events. Philpott was joined by bronze medalist freshman Alyssa Mae Antolin in the 200-meter dash and silver medalist freshman Hallee Layman in the discus. Philpott threw 38.26 meters in the javelin. Both Antolin and Layman medaled on Saturday.
 
Sophomore Jaelyn Domingo was just shy of scoring in the pole vault but did have a 0.08 meter PR with a 3.74-meter vault to finish 10th overall missing out on a top four through eight finish because of misses and opening height tiebreakers.
 
Freshman Montserrat Montanes i Arbo finished sixth in the hammer throw with a PR of 51.49 meters on Thursday, as well.
 
On Friday, freshman Tierra Sydnor went off, placing fourth in the long jump with a PR of 5.71 meters and placing sixth in the high jump at 1.61 meters, her second PR of the day. In the 400-meter dash, Sydnor snuck into the final before finishing fifth overall with a top 10 program time of 57.17 to finish fifth overall in the final.
 
Sophomore Sophia Morgan also placed in the 3,000-meter steeplechase with seventh-fastest time in program history at 11:21.08.
 
Hawai'i had two medalists on Saturday with Layman throwing the disc 47.86 meters and Antolin running 24.64 in the 200.
 
Freshman Nova Waters also placed in the top five with a 1:03.12 time in the 400-meter hurdles.
 
The Wahine 400-meter relay team, comprised of four freshmen finished fourth at 47.71, the 1,600-meter relay team placed sixth.
