Overall record: 16-10, UH
Streak: L2
Last Hawaii win against UCD: 2-1 @Hawai'i, May 9th, 2019
FIRST PITCH
- The 'Bows are currently weathering through an eight-game losing streak at the hands of the top two teams of the Big West Conference standings in Long Beach State and most recently Cal State Fullerton.
- In the series against the Titans, the UH offense worked to keep it close but was outscored 32-10. In game four, the 'Bows worked for the upset bid over the top-ranked team in the conference but fell short 5-4.
- Sophomore first baseman Dallas Millwood continues to be the hottest hitter for the 'Bows as she has gone 8-for-17 at the plate over the last two series, starting in every game. Over the stretch, she slugged two homers, including a grand slam, added another extra-base hit with a double, and knocked in nine runs.
- With Millwood's current production, she has worked her way to the top of the stats sheet as she leads the team in average (.367), on-base plus slugging percentage (.982), and slugging percentage (.571). Her .411 on-base percentage ranks No. 2 on the team.
- Junior center fielder Brittnee Rossi has been an essential table-setter for UH as she leads the team with a .436 on-base percentage. Her .912 OPS stacks heavily towards her doubles production as she is tied with freshman utility player Maya Nakamura with seven. On top of her plate production, Rossi has done her part on the bases, scoring 20 runs and going a perfect 7-for-7 in stolen base attempts.
- Depending on how the series goes with UC Davis, UH could finish as high as No. 3 in the Big West Conference standings. The Aggies have a game lead over UH, UC San Diego, and UC Santa Barbara going into the final week of the season. UC Davis enters the week at 11-10, while UH and the others stand at 10-11.
- The last two series against UC Davis have gone to the Aggies, while each of those series ended the season for the 'Bows. The 2017 campaign was the last time UH knocked off UC Davis in a three-game series, where UH took 2-of-3 in Honolulu.
- The 2021 roster is accompanied by seven seniors, all of which will be honored after game two on Friday. Headlined by third baseman Angelique "Cheeks" Ramos and left fielder Bree Soma, they're joined by field position players Merilis "Mama" Rivera, Laakea Bertulfo, and Samantha Thomas, as well as pitchers Emily Klee and Dominique Martinez.
FAN CUTOUTS AT RAINBOW WAHINE SOFTBALL STADIUM
The University of Hawai'i Athletics Department is offering fans an opportunity to get a cutout of yourself, a friend, a family member or even your pet which will be placed in an open seat in the Rainbow Wahine Softball Stadium. Each cut out will cost $50 and remain in place for all 2021 Rainbow Wahine Softball home games. Proceeds from the cutouts will support University of Hawai'i student-athletes.
IN IT TO WIN IT
University of Hawai'i Athletics and 'Ahahui Koa Ānuenue are inviting fans to "Pledge-per-Win" for the "In It to Win It" fundraising initiative in the 2021 softball season. Although it is currently not possible to attend games, this program provides an alternate way to cheer on the 'Bows while also supporting UH Athletics.
NCAA EXTENDS EXTRA YEAR TO SPRING SPORTS ATHLETES
All returning college players were granted an additional year of eligibility due to the COVID-19 pandemic that ended the 2020 season six weeks into the season. All NCAA athletes (D-I, D-II and D-III), and junior college athletes keep their athletic standing from the 2020 season. Thus a freshman in 2020 is a freshman in 2021. A redshirt junior in 2020 stays a redshirt junior in 2021.Â
Hawai'i has decided to label all athletes as their athletic eligibility rather than advance their eligibility or add on additional confusing language such as "second-year freshman" or "sixth-year junior."
Incoming freshmen are as listed, freshmen.Â
