Wahine Host UC Irvine with Big West Implications

HONOLULU - The University of Hawai'i water polo team faces UC Irvine for the third and fourth consecutive games at the Duke Kahanamoku Aquatic Complex Friday and Saturday. The two teams faced off in two non-conference games at UC Irvine April 10-11 with the Wahine winning both games.

In current conference standings, the 'Bows are tied for third with Irvine at 1-1. This series was rescheduled after being canceled in March due to Covid-19 protocols. The first game of the matchup will count towards the Big West while the second will remain non-conference.

The Rainbow Wahine currently hold three game win streak against UCI along with an overall record of 21-11 and 6-2 record at home. In the most recent matchup with the Anteaters, redshirt sophomore Libby Gault and freshman Lucia Gomez de le Puente have made big contributions to the scoreboard. Gault scored a career high of four goals in the most recent win against Irvine while Gomez de le Puente has been a consistent benefactor on offense and defense.

Hawai'i is feeding off of a five game win streak and 2-0 record at home this season.

The first sprint will take place at 6 pm HT on April 16 at the Duke Kahanamoku Aquatic Complex.
