BOULDER CITY, Nev. – Two University of Hawai'i women's golfers placed in the Top 10 and the Rainbow Wahine took third place as a team at the Jackrabbit Invitational after posting a final round 309 Tuesday at the Boulder Creek Golf Club.
Hawai'i carded a 54-hole score of 924 and finished only six strokes behind runner-up Gonzaga (918). Host South Dakota State ran away with the team title with an 897 total after a blistering final round 291.
UH freshman
Ali Schmunk and senior
Zoey Akagi-Bustin took 6
th and 9
th place, respectively. Competing in her first collegiate event, Schmunk wrapped up the tournament with a final round 74 that included four birdies. Akagi-Bustin posted her second straight Top 10 finish through three tournaments this season.
SDSU's Teresa Toscano shot a final round 3-under 69 to capture medalist honors at 2-over 218 total, two strokes better than teammate Cassidy Laidlaw, who shot 2-under 70 on Tuesday. The low round of the tournament was Northern Illinois' Ke-Ai Liu, who shot 4-under 68 to finish in third place.
Schmunk, of Yuma, Ariz., carded rounds of 76-78-74 for a 12-over 228 total to finish in a three-way tie for sixth place among the field of 53 golfers. After starting 4-over after her first seven holes of the day, Akagi-Bustin went even par the rest of the way to finish 75-79-76 for a 230 total and solo ninth place.

Hana Mirnik posted three sub-80 rounds (76-78-79=233) for her best finish as a Rainbow Wahine in a tie for 13
th place. Sophomore
Kralyn Salazar tied for 22
nd at 236 (76-80-80) while freshman
Monica Johnson rebounded from a first round DQ with scores of 77 and 80 in her final two rounds.
The Rainbow Wahine will next host the Ānuenue Spring Break Classic, March 22-24, at the Royal Kā'anapali Course in Maui.
