BOULDER CITY, Nev. – The University of Hawai'i women's golf team is currently in third place after day one of the Jackrabbit Invitational. Play was suspended due to darkness as several Rainbow Wahine were finishing their final holes of the day at the Boulder Creek Golf Club.
As it stands, UH is six strokes behind host South Dakota State and two behind Gonzaga, both of whom managed to finish all 36 holes. Hawai'i, Idaho, and Creighton were still on the course among the nine-team field.
Senior
Zoey Akagi-Bustin is 8-over for the tournament with one hole left to finish in her second round and tied for fourth place. The Wahiawā, O'ahu native is four strokes off the lead held by Gonzaga's Quynn Duong, who is 4-over 148 after rounds of 75 and 73. Akagi-Bustin shot a first round 75 and is 5-over in Round 2.
Competing in her first collegiate event, UH freshman
Ali Schmunk shot 76 and 78 and is 10-over 154 along with teammate
Hana Mirnik, who has one hole left in her second round. The pair are in an eight-way tie for seventh place.
A trio of SDSU golfers are right behind Duong, including Teresa Toscano, who is one stroke back and had the low round of the day at 1-under 71 in Round 1.
Also competing for UH are sophomore
Kralyn Salazar, who shot 76-80 and is tied for 16
th at 156. Freshman
Monica Johnson had a DQ in her first round and is 4-over in Round 2.
The tournament concludes on Tuesday as the remaining golfers will finish up their round followed by the third and final round.
