Women’s Tennis Hosts CSUN In Big West Match-Up

HONOLULU, O'ahu – The University of Hawai'i women's tennis team will play its first Big West Conference home match of the season for the start of a six-match homestand, hosting CSUN Sunday, March 14 at 11:00 a.m., at the UH Tennis Complex.

The match will also be Hawai'i's home opener after its originally scheduled opener against Washington last Sunday was canceled due to inclement weather. The Rainbow Wahine (1-2) will continue to play at home through March.

UH opened its season with a California road trip that included a loss to 17th-ranked USC, then with a sweep of Big West rival UC Irvine, 7-0. Hawai'i closed its road trip falling to San Diego, 7-0.

Several players have wins in both singles and doubles, with senior Bojana Markovic taking the season's first singles win against USC. UH's No. 1 duo of senior Petra Melounova and sophomore transfer Alexis Merrill and No. 2 duo of sophomore Satsuki Takamura and senior Nikola Dolakova each scored UH's only doubles wins of the season so far against UC Irvine.

CSUN will open its 2021 season against the 'Bows after a postponed season opener match against Cal Lutheran. The Matadors had a formidable 6-2 season in 2020 prior to COVID-19's disruption and returns six players, four being starters. Senior Ekatarina Repina holds the Matadors' No. 1 slot while leading the team in singles victories last season with a 6-1 mark.

UH has had a four-match win streak against CSUN from 2016-19.
