Rainbow Wahine Trio Named CSC Academic All-District

HONOLULU — University of Hawai'i women's tennis players Allaire Berl, Makeilah Nepomuceno and Sophie Rachor were named to the College Sports Communicators Women's Tennis Academic All-District team in recognition for their work on the court, in the classroom, and in the community.

To be eligible, student-athletes must compete in the lineup in at least 75 percent of their team's scheduled competitions (excluding regional ITA's and non-team scored events). All Academic All-District® honorees are considered for advancement to the CSC Academic All-America® ballot. Finalists advancing to the national ballot will be voted on by CSC members, with the first-, second-, and third-team Academic All-America® honorees announced in June.

Allaire Berl (Senior - Westport, Mass.)
  • Academic Highlights: Has earned Dean's List honors all four semesters while at UH as an Interdisciplinary Studies major. Named an ITA Scholar-Athlete for both seasons at UH and at her previous school, Kenyon College.
  • Athletic Highlights: In singles, Berl posted an 8-9 overall and dual match record, primarily competing at the No. 5 slot (5-7) and going 3-2 at No. 6. In doubles, she collected a 4-12 overall and dual record at the No. 3 spot. Her primary pairings included playing alongside Isabella Pampulov (2-7) and Emma Forgac (2-5).
  • Community Service: Volunteered at Papahana Kuaola farm in the lo'is (taro patches) and at Ka Papa Lo'i o Kānewai on UH campus. Berl served as UH's SAAC president and was a part of beach clean ups in the fall and volunteered with food drives. She helped run UH's national stem cell/bone marrow registry program for NMDP, which she helped to plan and also collected cheek swabs samples. Berl participated in the Manoa Christmas Parade, collected food donations during the recent floods on O'ahu, and helped with the Big West Student-Athlete Advisory Committee's "Headstrong" initiative promoting student-athletes wearing helmets. She has volunteered with Polaris Athletes to mentor high school student-athletes preparing for collegiate athletics, and with the Kids and Wahine Day to teach kids how to play tennis.
Makeilah Nepomuceno (Sophomore - Rosemead, Calif.)
  • Academic Highlights: Selected as a CSC Academic All-America® Finalist, advancing to the national ballot.  The Travel Industry Management major earned ITA Scholar-Athlete honors as a freshman and Dean's List all four semesters. Nepomuceno held the highest GPA on the Rainbow Wahine Tennis Team this season.
  • Athletic Highlights: Earned All-Big West Second-Team honors in doubles with partner Hannah Galindo playing at the No. 2 court all season. Also garnered All-Big West Honorable Mention honors in singles playing all 18 matches at No. 2 In singles, she recorded a 6-10 overall/dual record playing at No. 2 and held a 5-4 record in Big West conference play. In doubles, she developed a highly productive partnership with Galindo at the No. 2 position, achieving a 10-7 overall and dual record (6-3 in conference play).
  • Community Service: Most recently helped with food drives to help the victims of the severe flooding O'ahu suffered through in the Spring.
Sophie Rachor (Graduate Student - Bad Soden am Taunus, Germany)
  • Academic Highlights: Rachor earned her Bachelor's Degree at Concordia Irvine before playing her final collegiate season at Hawai'i, where she is pursuing her Master's Degree in Finance. 
  • Athletic Highlights: Earned All-Big West Second Team honors in doubles with partner Grete Gull. In singles, she finished with a 5-12 overall and dual record, anchoring the middle of the lineup primarily at the No. 3 slot (4-10) and making a brief appearance at No. 2 (1-1). In doubles, she played exclusively at the No. 1 position, capturing an 9-9 overall dual record with Gull, including a 6-3 mark in Big West play.
