Rainbow Wahine Picked at No. 4 in Big West Conference Preseason Poll

IRVINE, CALIF.-- The Big West Conference released its 2021 softball preseason coaches poll on Thursday and picked the University of Hawai'i to finish in fourth place. 
 
The poll was voted on by the conference's head coaches, including newcomer UC San Diego, with four-time champion Cal State Fullerton remaining at the top of the poll. 
 
The Rainbow Wahine wrapped up a short, COVID-19 hindered 2020 season with a 9-15 record against all non-conference opponents. In the prior season of 2019, the 'Bows went 33-16 overall with a 14-7 record against conference foes, putting them at the No. 2 spot of the standings. 
 
UH returns a handful of notable contributors, including seniors Bree Soma and Angelique "Cheeks" Ramos, as well as juniors Brittnee Rossi and Nawai Kaupe, to bolster the roster. Kaupe was tied for the team lead in home runs with seven a year ago while starting all 24 games at shortstop. She was also second on the team in batting average (.347), on-base percentage (.440), and slugging percentage (.681).
 
As of date, the 2021 schedule has not yet been released.
