HONOLULU—The University of Hawai'i women's basketball team and head coach
Laura Beeman officially announced the signing of Jovi Lefotu, Avery Watkins, and Imani Perez as a part of the November 2021 signing class on Monday.
Beeman on the class as a whole:
"This recruiting class is going to be exciting. Their personalities are a perfect complement to the teammates they will be joining. They all have their unique styles of play and skillsets. We are incredibly honored and excited to coach them for the next four years. Length, athleticism, and talent are what they bring to our roster."
Lefotu, a 5'8 shooting guard and local product from 'Iolani high school, helped her squad win ILH state titles in 2019 and 2020 while scoring 13 points per game over her career. She is also an honor roll student off the court.
Beeman on Jovi Lefotu:
"Welcome home, Jovi! She has already been given the title "a bucket" on the floor. She is versatile and is a perfect addition to our offense. She has the ability to play the point guard or off guard position. Smooth, polished, and can shoot. We are so excited Jovi chose Hawaii and can't wait to see her take the floor for our team."
A 6'4 forward from Denver, Colorado, Perez provides depth in the post while giving the post a defensive threat. She plays the role of a tweener and is mobile in her position and her ability on the court.
Beeman on Imani Perez:
"Imani (Perez) is a long post player with the ability to run the floor. Her length will allow her to be a disruptive force in the paint. Her skill set allows her to play on the block and also face up. She has a contagious personality and a strong desire to grow her game. She also has a bit of a chip on her shoulder to show what her game is all about."
Rounding out the signing class is Watkins, a 6'0 versatile forward from Seattle, Washington. She's a multiple-sport athlete from Kennedy Catholic high school as she played volleyball and softball. Outside of the classroom, she is very active as a volunteer in community events.
Beeman on Avery Watkins:
Avery Watkins is a big athletic guard. She went under the radar this past season, and we are excited to showcase her inside-out style of play. She has good back-to-the-basket skills and can shoot the three. Her length also will allow her to guard multiple positions on the court. Another charismatic personality to add to an already fun group.
