ON THE PITCH
- The Rainbow Wahine come into the match riding the momentum of winning back-to-back on the road, a first since the 2018 season. UH knocked off UC Davis 2-1 and registered the highest goals production against CSU Bakersfield in a 4-0 victory.
- Before the road trip, UH faced negative history square in the face by possibly going winless on the season. The 'Bows made sure to stay away from history but still have another hurdle to climb with one match remaining. The lowest win total in one season for UH is three, which has been done three times in program history. If UH beats UC San Diego, they'll match the mark set.
- Sophomore midfielder Eliza Ammendolia was the difference-maker in the two victories, registering three goals over the weekend. She scored the first goal against the Aggies, followed by the first and fourth goals to topple the Anteaters.
- Sophomore forward Kelci Sumida continues to be the offensive force and certified table-setter for the 'Bows as she still leads the team with five goals scored on the season. Her fifth goal came at a crucial point in the 85th minute against UC Davis for her first game-winner of the season. Her heroics proved to be the push UH needed to capture the first win of the year.
- Even though it has only been for one season, the play of senior midfielder Maki Kono has made a significant difference for UH. The transfer from Loyola Marymount is second on the team in goals with three, including her first career multi-goal game as she netted two against UC Irvine. Kono will be one of five seniors honored after the match on Sunday for the 'Bows.
- While 2021 has been a rough year for UH, it has been equally challenging for UC San Diego. The Tritons were the mainstay atop the NCAA Division II rankings but recently transitioned into NCAA Division I and the Big West Conference. In their first full season, UCSD has gone 5-10-2, including a 3-5-1 mark in the conference.
