Fresno, Calif -- The University of Hawai'i men's tennis team finished their Pacific Central Valley Championship ride on a high note as they defeated Nevada, 4-1 at the Wathen Tennis Center in Fresno, Calif.. Hawai'i improved to 7-5 overall.
The Rainbow Warriors began by winning the doubles point. Hawai'i defeated the Nevada Wolf Pack on courts No. 1 and 2 to secure the doubles point. UH's No. 2 duo of Blaz Seric and Axel Labrunie defeated Gvidas Motuzas and Delmas N'tcha, 6-3. UH's No. 3 Simao Telo Alves and
Chia-Hua Lu lost against Nevada's Daniel Dudockin and Benjamin Campi 7-5. Hawai'i's No. 1 pair of
Andre Ilagan and
Lucas Labrunie then came through to edged out the Wolfpack's Julien Evrard and Isaac Nortey in a hard fough tiebreaker, 7-6 (4) to secure the doubles point.
The Rainbow Warriors went on to win three of six singles on the No. 3, 5 and 6 courts. No. 6 Tristan Martins knocked off Campi in straight sets, 6-3, 6-3. UH's No. 3 Seric outplayed Nevada's N'Tcha by the score of 6-4, 6-3 to give UH a 3-0 lead. Hawai'i's No. 5, Alves clinched the match, easily winning the first set against then rallying in the second to defeat Motuzas 6-2, 7-5. UH's No. 1 Ilagan finished fell to Nevada's Evrard, 6-4, 6-2. Both No. 2 Lucas Labrunie and No. 5 Axel Labrunie's matches went unfinished.Â
This marked Hawai'i's second win at the Pacific Central Valley Championships in Fresno. The Rainbow Warriors continue their road trip with a rematch against Pacific on March 4th in Stockton, California.
