HONOLULU—The University of Hawai'i softball team (1-2) dropped two games on Friday night at the Rainbow Wahine Softball Stadium. Hawai'i fell to Iowa State, 8-4 and then Memphis 15-3 on the second day of the Paradise Classic tournament.
Iowa State 8, Hawai'i 4
Against the Cyclones, UH held a 2-0 and later 4-1 lead but could not hold on to it as Iowa State rallied to score seven runs in the sixth inning to overtake the 'Bows for an 8-4 win.

Ashley Murphy suffered the loss in her first career start in the pitching circle. She threw five strong innings, but lasted 5.1 innings. Murphy allowed six runs on seven hits with two walks and three strikeouts.
Emily Klee came in relief in the sixth inning, but she was unable to record an out. Klee was responsible for two runs on two hits. Freshman
Amanda Ajari came in and got the final five outs, allowing just one hit in the game.
In the first inning, UH rallied on two outs to load the bases. Angelique Ramos lifted a foul fly ball to right field to drive in
Brittnee Rossi from third on the sacrifice fly for an early 1-0 lead.
Sammie Ofoia blasted her first home run as a Rainbow Wahine and UH's first home run of the season with a blast high over the centerfield fence to give UH a 2-0 lead after two innings of play.
Iowa State got on the scoreboard in the third on a Logan Schaban single through the leftside of the infield to score Carli Spelhaug.
Hawai'i loaded the bases again in the third inning, but Iowa State was able to get a strikeout to escape unscathed.
The Rainbow Wahine added two runs in the fourth inning. With runners at second and third with two outs,
Callee Heen came through with a solid single up the middle to drive in
Bree Soma from third. UH would go on to load the bases for the third time.
Maya Nakamura then got a hit to third to drive in Rossi to give the 'Bows a 4-1 lead.
The Cyclones erupted for seven runs in the sixth. With the bases loaded and one out, Ramos reached on a fielding error at short that allowed one run to score. Bryn Hanrahan later walked to drive in Alesia Ranches and Spelhaug then drove a single up the middle to drive in Hannah Carter. Sami Williams then launched a three-run home run to give the Cyclones an 8-4 lead.
Except for a double by Angelique Ramos in the sixth, the Cyclones retired six of the last seven Rainbow Wahine batters to capture the win.
Iowa State's Janessa Jasso threw 3.2 innings to start the game, allowing four runs on two hits with six walks and two strikeouts. Karlie Charles earned the win throwing the final 3.1 innings, allowing just two hits with a walk and a strikeout.
Memphis 15, Hawai'i 3
In the second inning, Heen launched her first home run of the season high over the centerfield fence to give UH a 1-0 lead. It was her 39
th career home run which moves her into No. 5 alone in the UH record book.
In the third, the Tigers put runners on first and second with no outs. Both runners advanced into scoring position on a wild pitch. Both runners then scored on a throwing by Dino to first that sailed over Heen at first after a comebacker to allow Memphis to seesaw into the lead. Later, another throwing error of a squib shot to third allowed the runner at third to score as well as the batter who raced all the way around the bases to give the Tigers a 4-1 lead.
Hawai'i tried to rally in the bottom of the third. The 'Bows loaded the bases with two outs, but the Tigers got a foul fly out to short to thwart UH's effort.
Memphis added four more runs in the fifth to extend their lead to 8-1. Ajari once again came in and after allowing a hit she got the final two outs on a double play. Memphis' Lee hit a line shot to Rossi in center and she fired to second to double off the runner to end the frame.
Hawai'i was able to get back-to-back RBI-doubles by Heen and Ramos to cut their deficit to 8-3 in the fifth inning.
UH's Isabella "Izzy" Dino took the loss, evening her record at 1-1. She threw 4.1 innings, allowing eight runs on six hits with a walk and three strikeouts. Ajari came in relief and threw 2.1 innings allowing two runs on two hits with a walk.
Dominique Martinez then came in with two outs in the seventh, but was unable to end inning. She allowed five runs on two hits with three walks. Klee came in and after a walk, she caught a line drive hit back to her to end the Tigers' rally.
Memphis Kailey Hilderbrand started the game and lasted 1.0 innings, allowing one run on two hits with a strikeout. Chyanne Ellett earned the win, throwing 3.2 innings. She gave up two runs on four hits with two walks and three strikeouts. Mariah Nichols threw the final 2.1 innings, allowing two hits with a walk and a strike out.
The Paradise Classic concludes on Saturday with bracket play games. At 10:00 a.m., the No. 2 seed Iowa State will take on the No. 3 seed Hawai'i. At 12:00 p.m., No. 1 seed Iowa State will battle No. 4 Northern Colorado. The two losing teams will then face off for the third place game and the two winning teams will play for the tourney championship.
