Box Score 2 IRVINE, Calif. – It was a split Saturday for the No. 3 University of Hawaii water polo team as they beat No. 5 Arizona State 15-5 but fell short to No. 1 Stanford 12-9 in the second day of competition of the Barbara Kalbus Invitational. The Rainbow Wahine will play for third place Sunday morning against either No. 2 UCLA or No. 4 USC at 9:30 a.m. HT.
After extending their win-streak to 11 games, the 'Bows experienced their first loss of the season. Junior

Molly DiLalla finished with eight saves apiece.
#3 Hawai'i 15 - #5 Arizona State 5
No. 3 Rainbow Wahine outscored No. 5 Arizona State in every quarter and won for the second time this season, 15-5.
A battle to start the match, the Wahine found the net to score the first goal halfway through the first frame by sophomore
Alba Bonamusa Boix. Baringo recorded her first goal of the game while ASU scored in the final 19 seconds to end the half 2-1.
Baringo netted early in the second period to carry the 'Bows to a 4-0 run. The Wahine extended their lead 7-1 with Bonamusa Boix tallying two goals and ASU scoreless.
The Sun Devils recorded the first goal of the half but Baringo answered back. Baringo and sophomore
Szonja Kuna led the team and ended the third frame up 10-3.
Redshirt freshman
Rebecca Buenrostro-Gallimore contributed two goals to finish the match, 15-5.
#3 Hawai'i 9 - #1 Stanford 12
Baringo netted the first goal early in the match, yet Stanford followed quickly behind. The Cardinal pulled away, but the Wahine remained in reach as freshman

Lalelei Mata'afa found the net to cut Stanford's lead to 5-3.
The 'Bows and Cardinal traded goals and finished the half with Stanford leading 8-6. Stanford scored right out of the gate in the second half, but Bonamusa Boix and Baringo responded with a goal apiece. The Wahine and Cardinal matched each other goal-for-goal in the period.
After a tough start to the second half, Kuna tallied the first goal of the third frame with three minutes remaining in the third quarter. The Cardinal continued to maintain the small lead over the Wahine 10-8
In the final two frames, the 'Bows limited the Cardinal to only two goals per period. Sophomore
Bernadette Doyle scored the only Hawaii goal in the final frame.
Tomorrow, the 'Bows will compete one last game for third place at 9:30 a.m. HT to close out the Barbara Kalbus Invitational.
