Box Score IRVINE, Calif. – Led by sophomore
Alba Bonamusa Boix the No. 3 University of Hawai'i water polo team claimed victory over No. 15 UC Davis 9-6 on Friday to start the Barbara Kalbus Invitational.
It was a neck-and-neck competition as the second and third frames consisted of trading goals. The Rainbow Warriors were able to finish on top as they outscored Davis in the first and final periods. Bonamusa Boix tallied a total of six goals for the day.
Bonamusa Boix recorded all of the goals for the Wahine in the first period to lead the team 3-1 over the Aggies.
After a slow start to the second frame start, Davis scored two consecutive goals to tie the game. The 'Bows battled and regained the lead to close out the half 5-3. Redshirt freshman
Rebecca Buenrostro-Gallimore and Bonamusa Boix put an end to the Aggies short lived scoring streak by tallying the two goals in the period.
While Davis scored the first goal of the second half, the Wahine found the net three times in order to maintain their lead 8-6 lead guided by sophomore
Szonja Kuna's two goals.
Hawai'i managed to keep the Aggies scoreless in the final frame as Bonamusa Boix netted the only goal of the quarter.
The Wahine will next face the winner of No. 5 Arizona State and San Jose State on Saturday at 7:15 a.m. HT to continue the Barbara Kalbus Invitational.
