Box Score AZUSA, Calif. - The Rainbow Wahine returned from their two-week hiatus better than ever and claimed victory for the second time this season over Azusa Pacific in a non-conference matchup on Wednesday, 20-3. Currently ranked third in the country, the Rainbow Wahine have not dropped a match this season.
Sophomore
Alba Bonamusa Boix finished the game with five goals and junior
Molly DiLalla recorded eight saves. The Rainbow Wahine shot 20-of-33 on the night while APU started each half scoreless.
Bonamusa Boix scored the first goal of the match and it did not stop there. The duo of senior
Carmen Baringo and Bonamusa Boix led the team to a 4-0 run with two goals apiece. While the Cougars only had two shot attempts the entire frame, redshirt sophomore
Libby Gault and redshirt junior
Lalelei Mata'afa found the net as well, as they added to the run to end the period 6-0.
Bonamusa Boix contributed two additional goals, while two more 'Bows participated in the excitement as sophomores
Szonja Kuna and
Bernadette Doyle extended the scoring streak 10-0. The Cougars consecutively found the net twice finishing the half 10-2.
The 'Bows finished the third frame with a 14-goal lead, 16-2, while APU was left scoreless in the period. Three more Wahine joined the score board as redshirt freshman
Rebecca Buenrostro-Gallimore tallied two goals to continue a 5-0 run to start the half. Gault made her mark and netted the last goal of the third period with two minutes remaining.
Sophomoer
Emma van Rossum scored early in the fourth frame and Doyle found the net again soon after. Senior
Samantha Malouff recorded her first goal of the game halfway through the period continuing the 9-0 run. APU scored in the final two minutes remaining of the game.
Up next, the Wahine will face UC Davis in a non-conference matchup to start the UC Irvine Barbara Kalbus Invitational on Friday, Feb. 21 at 11:45 HT in Irvine, Calif.
