Los Angeles, Calif.—The University of Hawai'i diving team concluded the UCLA Bruin Diving Invitational with the men's one-meter event and the women's platform dive Sunday morning at the Spieker Aquatics Center.
Three Rainbow Warriors made their way into the finals of the one-meter event with sophomore
Max Burman leading the way in the final standings at No. 7. Throughout the three-day event, Burman found his way into a top-10 position in the one-meter, three-meter, and platform dive. On Sunday, he finished with a score of 570.05.
Joining Burman in the finals were senior
Grant Newcombe and sophomore
Octavio Lucero. Newcombe turned in his best finish of the invitational, coming in at No. 11 with a score of 543.80. Lucero continues to show improvement as a skilled underclassman coming in at No. 15, accumulating a score of 496.75.
The women's side wrapped up with the platform event. UH did not have a diver crack the top-12 to make the finals, but all three competitors finish in the top-25. Junior
Ivy Davis led the way at No. 20, followed by freshman
Annika Donez at No. 22, and junior
Victoria Moretti at No. 25.
The attention of the diving program and the swimming teams turn to the MPSF Championships. During the recent reign of the UH women's team and the emergence of the men's side, the diving program led by head coach
Mike Brown and assistant coach
Anita Rossing has been a stable part of the success. Over the past three seasons, the diving program has stood above others in the conference as the gold standard. The MPSF Championships will begin on Feb. 19 and wrap up on Feb. 22.
