HONOLULU –
Alexis Brenzil and
Kristen LaCosse will represent the University of Hawai'i women's track and field team at the 2019 NCAA West Preliminary at Sacramento State's Hornet Stadium May 23-24.
Brenzil will compete in the javelin on Thursday, May 23 at 12:00 p.m. PT (9:00 a.m. HT). Finishing in the top 12 would advance the junior to the NCAA Championships.
LaCosse is set to compete in the first round of the 400m hurdles on Thursday, May 23 at 4:30 p.m. PT (1:30 p.m. HT). The first round is split into six heats. The top three finishers from each heat plus the next six fastest times will move on to the quarterfinals on Friday, May 24 at 7:00 p.m. PT (4:00 p.m. HT). In the quarterfinals, the top three from each heat plus the next three fastest times will advance to the NCAA Championships.
The duo qualified for the NCAA West Preliminary by posting performances during the season that rank in the top 48 in the region in their respective events. It is Brenzil's third time qualifying for the NCAA regional competition (all in javelin) and the first time for LaCosse.
Brenzil is seeded 23rd in the west region thanks to a personal record distance of 49.58m (162'8") from the Big West Championships. LaCosse's accepted 400m hurdles entry time of 58.83 puts her 22nd in the region. Her time also came at the Big West Championships earlier in May.
