Nicole Lopez and
Izzy Dino both earned weekly honors from the Big West after their performances in Week Three of the season. Lopez, UH's senior third baseman was voted Big West Player of the Week, while rookie pitcher
Izzy Dino was selected as the Big West's Freshman of the Week.
Lopez earned her second career BWC Field Player of the Week award after helping lead
Hawai'i to a 5-2 record while hitting a team-high .522 batting average. She started all seven games and had 12 hits in 23 at-bats. She led the Rainbow Wahine in hits, doubles (3), home runs (4), runs scored (10) and stolen bases (3). Lopez also recorded a team-leading 1.174 slugging percentage and .560 on-base percentage. She posted at least one hit in all seven games. Four times she collected multiple hits, including a 3-for-3 effort against
Canisius.
In
Hawai'i's 7-2 win over
Canisius on Sunday, Lopez blasted a pair of two-run home runs to finish with four RBI in the game. Lopez also cranked two-run homers against DePaul and New Mexico. The '
Aiea native and Mid-Pacific Institute alum scored the game-winning run in a 3-2 triumph over the Lobos, finishing 2-for-3 with two runs scored and a double. It was Lopez's first conference weekly award since March 20, 2017.
Dino earned her first Big West Softball Freshman of the Week award of her career after piecing together three superb performances in the pitching circle. Dino tallied a 2-0 record this past week with a sparkling 0.44 ERA in 16.0 innings pitched. She walked just four while striking out 10 in three appearances.
Dino made her only start in the tourney opener against
Canisius, and she went the distance allowing five hits and one run in a 4-1 complete-game victory. She walked one and struck out four. Her next two appearances came in relief as she threw a combined nine innings of scoreless ball. Dino picked up the win in Friday's 3-2 result over New Mexico. She tossed 3.1 innings with three strikeouts and three hits allowed. She shut down the Lobos in another bullpen appearance, holding them to just one hit over 5.2 innings and striking out three, but did not figure in the decision.
