Game Notes
  • The Rainbow Wahine are coming off the opening weekend in which they went 4-1. UH notched a pair of mercy-rule wins over Georgia State and St. Mary's (CA); and two dramatic wins in which UH showed their resilience by coming back to defeat UT Arlington and Fresno State.
  • Rookie Mikaela Gandia-Mak earned the first ever Big West Freshman of the Week award after hitting .500 (6-for-12). Against St. Mary's she went 3-for-3 with two runs scored and two RBI.
  • Senior Nicole Lopez was key in all four of UH's wins. Overall, she hit .438 (7-for-16) and led UH with six runs scored, seven hits, and three doubles. She was also the only Rainbow Wahine to record a base hit against No. 1 UCLA. On defense, Lopez was a wall at third base. She had 15 assists and four putouts with a .950 fielding percentage at the hot corner.
  • Junior Callee Heen provided the power in the UH lineup. The Rainbow Wahine cleanup hitter hit .357 in five starts with a team-high .857 slugging percentage. She launched a pair of home runs—including one that provided the winning run against Fresno State. For the week, she went 5-for-14 with five runs scored, a double, two homers and a team-high six RBI.
  • In the pitching circle, four of UH's pitchers earned one win each. Sophomore Emily Klee came in relief of Brittany Hitchcock twice and earned her first win of the season holding off former longtime WAC rival, Fresno State. In her first appearance of the season, she held No. 1 UCLA to two runs on five hits in 3.2 innings pitched.
  • Hitchcock fired a one-hit, five inning shutout over Georgia State to open the season. Overall she has a 3.32 ERA in 12.2 innings pitched. Hitchcock has a 1-0 record  in three starts.
  • In just her second collegiate start, freshman Izzy Dino tossed the first UH no-hitter since 2012 in a six-inning shutout over St. Mary's. she had five strikeouts and two walks in the win.
  • Fellow freshman Ashley Murphy also earned her first collegiate win coming in to throw the last 1.2 innings against UT Arlington. She gave up three runs on three hits with a walk.
