Men's Volleyball

Second Straight Big West Defensive Award For Men’s Volleyball

University of Hawai'i men's volleyball junior middle blocker Patrick Gasman received Big West Conference Defensive Player of the Week honors, becoming the second Rainbow Warrior to earn the award in as many weeks.

The Clovis, Calif., native helped UH to a 3-0 record last week with wins over Queens and Saint Francis. Gasman averaged 3.17 blocks per set, which included a career-high eight blocks in a sweep of Saint Francis.

The 6-foot-10 middle blocker racked up 19 total blocks (one solo) in the road trip. He had five blocks in the series opener against Queens and notched six, in just one set, in the rematch. Offensively, Gasman hit .571 while averaging 2.50 kills per set.

Gasman helped the Rainbow Warriors improve to 8-0 on the year – all eight wins in straight sets. It marks the best start under head coach Charlie Wade and best since the 1996 squad started 13-0.

UH will next host Lincoln Memorial in a two-match, non-conference series, Friday, Feb. 15 and Sunday, Feb. 17 at the Stan Sheriff Center.
