Day One Complete for Track and Field at UW Invitational

SEATTLE - In the first indoor action of the 2019 season, the University of Hawaiʻi women's track and field team earned a number of personal records and top 10 performances in program history on day one of the UW Invitational on Friday at the Dempsey Indoor in Seattle.

"Overall, it was a strong opening day for us," head coach Tim Boyce said. "I'm very pleased with the great efforts by all our student-athletes."

In the 60m hurdles, junior Calli-Ann Abbott began the day with a personal record time of 8.80 to take sixth in the prelims. Moving onto the finals, Abbott again set a new personal best of 8.73 to earn seventh overall. Her 8.73 finish is the fourth-best time for the event in UH's indoor track and field history.

Senior Raion Black posted a 200m time of 25.52 for 18th place. It was a personal record and the fourth best in school history for the indoor season. Freshman Jordan Davis also cracked UH's top 10 for the indoor 200m, checking in at 9th for her 26.24 finish on Friday.

Also on the track, the distance medley relay team of Natasha Currence, Danielle Girard Tristan Setzer and Jessica Cushing-murray clocked in at 12:06.04 to pick up a 24th place finish. The time is the sixth best in the history of UH indoor track and field.

In the pole vault, senior Nina Bean secured 10th place after clearing 3.56m (11'8") on her first attempt at the height. Freshman Krista Rados put together a lifetime best pole vault by clearing 3.36m (11'00.25") on her second try.

Action at the UW Invitational will conclude tomorrow.
